The University is modernising how we manage digital identities — that’s the information that tells systems who you are and what you should have access to.
Through the Identity Improvement Programme, we’re working to create a clearer, more connected picture of people across Oxford. Whether you're a student, staff member, visitor, or researcher, these improvements aim to make your digital experience smoother, more secure, and better matched to your needs.
This is a long-term programme running to 2028, but key changes are already underway.
What’s changing?
We’re building better tools and processes for:
Why it matters
This work will help the University with:
- Reducing errors and improving data accuracy
- Making systems easier to use and more secure
- Streamlining identity events — like joining, changing roles, or leaving the University — to make them consistent and easy to manage
- Providing access that more accurately reflects all facets of a person's roles, responsibilities, and affiliations within the University
- Giving departments and colleges more flexibility in managing access
- Laying the groundwork for future improvements across Oxford’s digital services.
What do I need to do?
Right now, there’s no action you need to take — but:
- Stay informed as the programme develops.
- If you manage systems or access, you may be invited to help pilot new tools.
- When new self-service tools become available, check your own information. Please do this when prompted.
