Immersive insights: Virtual reality (VR) and wellbeing

Our Immersive insights: virtual reality in action article series continues with an exploration of wellbeing activities.

More than relaxation

The Immersive Lab is not just a space for relaxation; it is a hub for innovation and collaboration and a valuable resource for staff looking to enhance their wellbeing and foster a collaborative spirit. By providing access to cutting-edge virtual reality (VR) technology, the lab enables staff to explore new ways of working and interacting.

Whether it's through team-building activities or individual wellbeing sessions, the lab offers a unique environment that supports both personal and professional growth. It is set to become a cornerstone of the University's commitment to staff wellbeing and innovation.

Delivering stress relief and wellbeing activities

Charlotte White shared her team’s experience with using the lab to enhance wellbeing.

"As a Wellbeing Champion for our department, it was a good opportunity to visit and test meditation apps with some of the Finance team," she said. “We engaged in a variety of meditation and stress-relieving apps designed to enhance wellbeing. The sessions went really well, everyone enjoyed it and reported that they felt more relaxed after the session," Charlotte added.

The benefits of these sessions extend beyond immediate relaxation. Charlotte noted that, in addition to relaxation, other benefits included stress relief, improvement of wellbeing, and team bonding. The positive impact of the session was so significant that the Finance team plans to use the Immersive Lab again. When asked if they would return, Charlotte said "Yes definitely!" She also highly recommends that other teams give it a try, highlighting the numerous benefits experienced during their one-hour session.
